Welsh Penrhyn slate
Welsh Penrhyn roofing slate is the slate that sets the benchmark for all natural roofing slates. Welsh Slate is extracted from some of the world’s finest deposits formed up to 590 million years ago. Slate blocks from the quarry are cut to size using laser guided saws. The slate blocks are then split to their final thickness using traditional skills and tools, before being dressed to size with chamfered edges.
There is no other roofing material which has demonstrated this extraordinary durability. For a different natural-slate option with a refined finish, compare Spanish slate. Welsh slate is a very cost effective roofing material as it is less costly to maintain and has a lower frequency of re-roofing. Welsh slate is impermeable to water, unaffected by UV light, unaffected by normal heating, freezing and thermal cycle, unaffected by atmospheric pollution, sea air and sea spray, unaffected by insect attack and is non combustible and does not support combustion.

Why Welsh Penrhyn Suits Premium Heritage and Architectural Roofing
Two materials, one standard of workmanship.
Welsh Penrhyn slate is particularly well suited to heritage restorations, prestigious residences and architect-designed buildings where the provenance and appearance of the roofing material are important. Its fine natural texture, traditional character and long history of use help it complement buildings where authentic detailing must be preserved.
For restoration projects, Welsh Penrhyn may be selected to match an existing slate roof or reinstate a traditional roofing material appropriate to the building. On architectural new builds, it can provide a distinguished natural finish for projects designed around premium materials and carefully executed roof detailing.
Mr Shingles can assist architects, builders and heritage property owners with slate selection, roof planning and specialist installation based on the project specifications.
