Mr Shingles is one of Australia’s longest-standing specialists in slate and timber shingle roofing, with a legacy that spans more than 60 years. Founded in the early 1960s, the business has been shaped by three dedicated owners — each adding their own expertise and evolving the offering while preserving a commitment to quality.
A Legacy That Lives On
The business began with a strong focus on timber shingles, earning a reputation for skilled workmanship and durable finishes. Around 15 years later, the next owner introduced slate roofing — a defining moment that would set the course for the future. Today, slate makes up the majority of Mr Shingles’ projects, thanks to its elegance, longevity, and structural integrity.
Since 1991, the current owner has continued to lead with a focus on consistency, professionalism, and craft, building on the legacy while adapting to the changing needs of modern construction.

At Mr Shingles, traditional roofing techniques are enhanced by modern technology. We make use of AppliCad, an advanced CAD-based estimation tool, alongside a proprietary costing spreadsheet that’s been refined over the past 25 years. Together, these tools ensure each quote is accurate, each project is well-planned, and each outcome meets our exacting standards.
We also offer the ability to showcase digital renderings and slate-cutting techniques as part of the customer experience — allowing clients to visualise their project and engage with the process from the start.
